Jamaica Train You could turn Pom around 360° and he would be lost So it made great sense to book tickets and go and take New York Fly on a jet plane On to a great quest To land of opportunity Above the clouds In clear blue skies Through turbulences Ear busting pressure Landing gear down An the wheels touch the ground Jamaica train Never ending loop Connection line To the nerve system of the city Jamaica train! Find that station Now catch the tube to Destination
2.
In search of Sonny In search of Sonny In search of that free guitar as saxophone Really making the effort, going through Piles and piles of wax Sonny must have guided the way Being there in a spirit Cause the steady flow of second hands Graciously gave out Material and Mann Only wanting a pittance in reward In search of Sonny In search of the melody master And his words on improvisation Still ringing out clear and true Like that slide whistle And the duets with Linda Never easy on you That earnestness shines through In search of Sonny I bet you never would have called Your playing skronk In all its melodiness And beauty And the horn like lines Exquisite as a sunrise New morning handing out A love supreme
3.
Oceanville, Brownsville Long walk from Oceanville, Brownsville to Brooklyn bridge Fulton avenue changing ever so slightly on the way Amazing variety of churches Reverends and their sons Welcoming to join their community In between you can get your hair and nails done Or hang around in small stores Got your coffee, got your cigarettes Lottery tickets, snacks and delicatess Slow change, but looky, looky yonder Bakery and book store Come out of the blue Steady rise on the ladder
4.
Falling Rain 03:20
Falling Rain Sweet gently falling rain Sea of umbrellas Popped up like mushrooms Changing the pace To those who start running And those who drop to a Leisurely loose walk Sweet gently falling rain Filling out the subway stations Buskers take heed of the moment And fill the tunnels with sounds Sustaining like a cathedral echo Almost like mist Way too light to be a shower You feel it more Like a breath of the ocean A touch of moisture on your skin As soon as it is there It is gone Sweet gently falling rain Some seek shelter from the park Others relish on the fresh smell it brings In this tender spring afternoon One can almost feel the grass grow
5.
No Loitering 07:54
No Loitering Up and down the schoolyard The romp and stomp of small feet Steady beat of the bass drum Thunder and ligtning snare shots Cascade bouncing on the city walls Apartments and city blocks Street lights flicker Urging you to hurry up Get on with your crossing Make it swift if you catch my drift No loitering on the yard No loitering on the mind
6.
Pass it on/Melting Pot Melting pot it takes all kinds And there surely is room for all Every nationality hanging on Proudly to their roots And heritage is passed on Pass it on From father to son Nurture that eternal line Invisible and hard to break Still some manage to escape Do the unexpected Break the tools and come out a winner Melting pot hungry and needy Well oiled machine So very human On an eternal search Still right here - right now Pass it on The core of humanity We are all one, And one is all Building up bridges And they are there To cross One is all, And all is one
7.
Stained Glass Window Get a photograph A nice clean shot Moment frozen in time Or series of snap shots In a specific time frame Immortalizing a moment Something worth preserving Kind of a document Small detail might do Or full blown panorama scene Through a stained glass window Changing the scenery Soft and surreal Altering the time Not quite stopping But a beautiful slow-motion Stopping the commotion Muting the sound

about

Album (out 17.8.2023) belongs to series New York: an observation. Lyrics are written during visit to New York 17-26.3.2023. Territorial soundscapes and on location recordings are from N.Y. The publishing day is part of Night of Arts 17.8.2023
The composer Tomi Christiansson tells: ”Hundreds of songs later still trying to capture the same king of feeling of a passing impression of surroundings from the outsiders point of view. Just over a month and it will be 40 years from the first song I put on paper. The notation is crude basically chord names over the words. The same method is still very much in use on the account of not being able to read notes.” Those spots and lines just never opened for him and they didn’t even have the hauntingly sweet notes that lay in between: the blue, red, happy, sad, exiting and so on. Most importantly the note that contains them all in this aura of overtones.
In other words Matilda Mother bands music is based special own tuning and flexible rhythms though following exact pulse. Songs Falling Rain, in search of Sonny and Pass it on and Stained Glass Window are acoustic home recordings. A part for this album is recorded 27.4.2023 at Maunula -talo. The guitar was broken and so the sound is rough in some parts. Recording video link:
